Schumacher | A Positive First Workout

Steven Schumacher was feeling positive after Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers in a behind-closed-doors fixture at Lostock.

In a game that saw beneficial minutes for most of Schumacher’s first team squad, John McAtee’s opener was cancelled out by Josh Davison’s leveller late in the second half.

Ahead of the club’s trip to Marbella next week, Wanderers’ Head Coach was pleased with the workout on Saturday afternoon ahead of flying out to Spain.

“It was a good workout,” he said.

“We managed to get two lots of 45 minutes for the lads, which finishes the week off well.

“We’ve had a good training week and this game got minutes into their legs in a competitive setting against a good team.

“We spoke a lot this week about our out of possession information and our ‘non-negotiables' that we have. From that aspect, I was really pleased with what I saw.

“We also did some things well with the ball too. But as the weeks develop and the work continues, we can tighten that up, so all-in-all it was a good workout.

“It was a positive day and we now look forward to flying out ahead of next week.”

As Wanderers played out their first fixture of pre-season against the League Two side, the club confirmed the signing of Amario Cozier-Duberry on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, making it two arrivals in consecutive days following the announcement of Thierry Gale on Friday.

With both now confirmed as Wanderers players, Wanderers’ Head Coach is delighted to have the forwards as part of his plans as the club fly out to Marbella in the coming days.

“It’s great to get the pair in the door before the trip away next week, as we now get to spend six full days together,” he said.

“The player and staff get to know each other better and the players get to understand in more detail of what we want from them - in terms of the playing shape and style, and how we want to go about things.

“Fresh faces always gives everyone a bit of a boost and adds excitement, so I’m delighted to get both over the line.

“They are both wide players and are capable of going past people - and if we can play to their strengths and get them playing with confidence - they can be exciting for us in creating and scoring goals for us.

“Both come to us with good reputations and hopefully they can develop whilst they’re here.”
