Bolton Wanderers sealed the perfect end to an intense pre-season training camp in Marbella with a 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates.
It was an assured performance from Steven Schumacher's side against the South African giants, as the Whites used the fixture - like Tranmere last weekend - to get vital minutes into the first team squad as pre-season intensifies.
With two sets of XIs used in both the first and second half, Wanderers scored in both halves through new signing Charlie Warren and defender George Johnston to round off the week in style.
In the opening 45, Schumacher opted with a shape that included a back four, with new signings Teddy Sharman-Lowe and Richard Taylor included in the back-line
The Whites' gaffer had spoke to Wanderers TV about the work being done on the training field in terms of Wanderers' defensive shape - and Schumacher's men proved a hard side to break down for the Pirates in a resolute 90-minute performance.
After surviving an early scare in which Taylor scrambled well to clear a ball off-the-line, Wanderers created their first opportunity through Josh Dacres-Cogley.
Taylor nodded a lofted corner back into the danger area, to which the full-back roses highest to meet but could only head over.
The heat was having an effect on proceedings, with soaring temperatures limiting chances in the opening stages - with the drinks break at the 25 minute mark coming at an ideal time.
When play restarted, Wanderers burst into life and created a couple of openings within minutes of each other.
First, nice play between Carlos Mendes Gomes and Dacres-Cogley down the right freed Josh into space, allowing him to cross first-time. The ball eventually was set back to Joel Randall on the edge of the area to take a touch and hit but he dragged his effort wide.
Mendes Gomes went searching for the ball once more and a driving run looked to have carved out an opportunity for David Abimbola as he tried to pick him out with a return pass, but the Pirates recovered.
The Bucs sent a timely reminder to the Whites just after when Mbule broke free into Sharman-Lowe's penalty area but Chris Forino did superbly to sweep round and make a vital tackle.
With that, Wanderers took control and grabbed the opener through Warren - signed in the summer from Isthmian League North Division outfit Felixstowe and Walton United.
A floated ball was kept alive well by George Thomason - who leapt above his defender to win the header and direct the ball into a dangerous area - and Warren was on-hand to apply a composed finish as the game approached half-time.
Mbule went close once again for the South African outfit with a driven effort that looked destined for the bottom corner, but flew just wide of Sharman-Lowe's right-hand post to ensure Wanderers took a lead into the break.

It was a completely new XI for the Whites in the second-half, with a notable first outing in Wanderers colours for new signing Amario Cozier-Duberry.
It proved to be not only a change of personnel, but a change of shape also as Wanderers picked up where they left off in the first half.
With Xavier Simons and Aaron Morley at the heart of the midfield controlling the opening minutes, the Whites went in search of their second goal.
From a corner, Eoin Toal flicked a Morley cross goalwards only for a defender to divert it over his own bar. From it, Wanderers doubled their lead.
Morley again the provider, this time floating a ball to the far post - allowing Johnston to rise above three defenders to meet it superbly and nod into the Pirates' net.
It was a goal that the Whites had deserved, and the second goal had handed them complete control as they game headed into the final 20 minutes.

Chances were again at a premium, with Wanderers' steely approach at the back offering next to nothing for their opponents in terms of opportunities.
John McAtee had the ball in the net after being played through nicely by Szabi Schön before finishing coolly, but the flag was up for offisde.
Then, a superb passage of play almost made it three. A move that included Max Conway, Simons, Morley, Osei-Tutu and McAtee - utilising both wide areas - eventually allowed Cozier-Duberry to hit one from 20 yards but it flew over the bar.
With that, Wanderers saw the game out comfortably as they secured their first victory in their pre-season fixtures. They return to England and Bolton now, with a trip to Barrow on the horizon for Steven Schumacher's men.
