Miller States His Case

Wanderers have strengthened their goalkeeping ranks with the capture of experienced former MLS man Tyler Miller.

The 32-year-old has joined the Whites on a one-year deal - subject to international clearance and FA approval - following a successful trial spell with Steven Schumacher’s squad during pre-season.

Miller’s arrival follows the signings of Teddy Sharman-Lowe and Nathan Broome earlier in the summer in a new-look goalkeeper department under the guidance of Head of Goalkeeping Owain Fôn Williams.

Six-feet, four-inch-tall Miller spent the final couple of months of last season with Notts County as they reached the League Two play-offs after moving to England from the United States, where he was capped at U23 level and called up as a member of the senior national squad.

The New Jersey-born keeper had previously played in Major League Soccer – the top level in the US – for Seattle Sounders, Los Angeles FC, Minnesota United and DC United.

His signing takes Wanderers’ number of summer recruits up to 11 with Miller looking to become the latest American player – following the likes of countrymen Stuart Holden, Tim Ream and loanees Marlon Fossey and Antonee Robinson – to make his mark with the Whites as part of an impressive goalkeeping line-up.

“It's always been my dream and desire to play in England,” said Miller, who spoke to former midfield man Holden about Wanderers before completing his move. “I got a little taste of it with Notts County in the latter half of their season and then going into the summer I was waiting for that next opportunity to come and I was in with a few different clubs.

“But then once Bolton came…. It's a massive club, an historic club and you've had a number of Americans that have also had success here, so I'm hoping to continue that.

“The vision for this club is immediately a challenge for promotion, which is something that I aspire to do and to help this club move forward in any way that I can.

“Teddy and Broomy are fantastic lads to work with and we're all working under 'Fonz' (Williams), who's a fantastic goalkeeper coach and is somebody that we're all lucky to be able to work with and learn from.

“We obviously know that there's only one guy that's going to be able to play but we're all supportive and we have a really good camaraderie and we're pushing each other to get better every single opportunity that we can. In every single position we want to push each other as hard as we can. That's going to ultimately drive the team and drive everybody forward to the ultimate goal of getting promoted.”

Miller will wear squad number 27 during his time with the club.
